Was Our Nation Founded on Biblical Principles?

Yesterday in Government class my teacher asked the question-

What is the reasoning behind homosexual marriges being against the law?   How is it wrong?  Why does it make since that they can make a law against it if it’s not hurting anybody?

Nobody answered… So I decided to speak up.

Well, wasn’t our nation founded on Biblical principles?

No, No, No, No, No and NO!  She replied redfaced- Our nation was NOT founded on Biblical principles!  That is such a misconception.

Well, weren’t our forefathers Christians?

No, No, No, NO!  Not all of them were Christians!  We do not need to bring religion into this discussion!  I have my religion and you have your religion and it doesn’t need to be brought up in class.

I am not trying to bring up my religion in class, I am was just suggesting that the reason homosexual marraiges are against could be because of our forefathers beliefs and the fact that many believe that it is morally wrong because of the Bible and their upbringing.

I have spoken to a coulple pastor’s in the past 24 hours…  one agrees with me and the other with my government teacher.

What do you think?

I agree with you completely, and my hat is off to you. My opinion of your teacher is that she either is very illiterate in the history of our nation or is banking on the students being illiterate or uninterested in knowing of our history. She wants to control the discussion so her viewpoint will prevail; therefore she limits the discussion boundaries to subjective criteria. Your proposal to base the conversation on actual history, which is replete with documented religious influences, removed her controls, which is why she reacted as she did. Furthermore, your readiness to cross swords with her in the arena of ideas probably frightened her and she knew she had to shut the discussion down or risk public humiliation. I encourage you to continue standing firm on your beliefs. You may risk the possibility of defeat from time to time, but the experience gained will boost your self confidence and give you an edge over your contemporaries like nothing else. Danielle, you are incredible and I wish America had 10,000 more like you.

Mr. Rob Steele I agree with you. It’s sad but a lot of teachers ask questions not knowing anything about history or God. And when someone specks up they want them to shut up. Because in their mind God doesn’t have anything to with it. Gay marriages are wrong, wrong , wrong, wrong ! Danielle Great job!

Thank you so much, Mr. Rob and Lora. The view points here at ACC, as I am sure they are in many other places, are very liberal. I am happy that I was able to share in class… and the fact that I got shot down doesn’t bother me so much. It’s just neat how God is opening doors for me to share with others. He is awesome!

there is no question that our forefathers were Christian. you can get all the ammo you need for your teacher at http://www.wallbuilders.com.

    example:
ask her how many hours they prayed before they discussed the constitution and declaration of independence…
